Gastric band removal and mini bypass in Turkey: Jacqueline's review
What the video covers
Jacqueline, 55, came to İzmir from England with a gastric band that had stopped working. The band was removed and converted to a mini gastric bypass in the same operation, and she recorded this video in her hospital room on day three.
She admits she was “a bit sceptical at first” because she did not know what the operation would involve, and says the service turned out to be excellent: the staff looked after her well, and in the heat the air-conditioned hospital mattered. The first day was painful, she says; by day three she was walking around, washing, doing her hair and make-up and getting dressed.
Asked whether she would recommend the surgeon, she says yes, definitely, and adds that the price was very good compared with what the treatment costs in England.
Filmed in 2020. Today every patient stays four nights in hospital until discharge – no hotel – and spends five days in Turkey in total. For revision patients the final decision on the operation is made after an endoscopy on arrival. Flights are not included.
The operation in this video
Gastric band removal with conversion to a mini gastric bypass costs £3,800 all-inclusive and takes about two and a half hours; conversion to a sleeve is £3,500. The port and tubing come out in the same operation. Four nights in hospital until discharge – no hotel – and twelve months of follow-up are included. Flights are not included.
