For reflux, a very high BMI, long-standing diabetes or a sleeve that has stopped working, a bypass is often the better operation. The surgeon tells you which, before you book.
Same model as the sleeve: a named IFSO surgeon, a JCI-accredited hospital, no hotel, no deposit, companion and interpreter included, twelve months of follow-up.
Most patients who write to us asking for a sleeve are right. Some are not, and it is the surgeon's job to say so before you fly rather than after.
A sleeve raises pressure in the stomach and can make reflux worse; 10–20% of sleeve patients develop or worsen it long term. A bypass usually cures it. Significant reflux is the clearest reason to choose a bypass.
Above a BMI of 50 a bypass tends to produce a larger and more durable loss. Sometimes the plan is a sleeve first and a bypass later; the surgeon tells you which.
Both operations improve diabetes, but the bypass's effect on blood sugar is faster and larger, often before much weight has gone.
Weight regain after a sleeve, or reflux after a sleeve, is corrected by converting it to a bypass. This is the most common mini gastric bypass we do; the surgeon's own guide is mini gastric bypass Turkey.
Bands fail or erode. Removal and conversion to a sleeve or bypass is usually done in one operation; details and prices are on the revision surgery page.
No reflux, a BMI of 35–50, no previous bariatric surgery: the sleeve is simpler, has no intestinal joins and is the first choice for most patients. See the gastric sleeve Turkey page.
Not included: flights. With significant other conditions or blood thinners the price can differ because extra tests and monitoring are needed; you are told before you travel.

Transfer from İzmir airport to the hospital; blood tests only.
Ultrasound, echocardiogram, three specialist reviews. The bypass is laparoscopic and takes longer than a sleeve. Walking two hours later.
Bypass patients get the same stay as sleeve patients, not a shorter one. The joins are checked and you are watched.
English discharge summary, written diet plan, vitamins, airport transfer. Fifteen days of liquids, fifteen of soft purée, then solids. Vitamins for life.
Everything else, from flights to insurance to what happens if you need A&E in the UK, is identical to the sleeve and covered on the is gastric sleeve in Turkey safe page and in the surgeon's weight loss surgery Turkey overview.
With Op. Dr. Volkan Arayıcı a gastric bypass or a mini gastric bypass is £2,999, all-inclusive: tests, operation, four nights in hospital, companion, transfers, interpreter, medication and twelve months of follow-up. Flights are the only extra.
The surgeon decides from your details, not from what you ask for. In general: significant reflux, a very high BMI, long-standing type 2 diabetes or a previous failed sleeve point to a bypass. Otherwise the sleeve is simpler and is the first choice for most patients.
Both create a small stomach pouch and re-route the small intestine. The Roux-en-Y bypass has two joins; the mini (one-anastomosis) bypass has one, is quicker and is often used for revisions. The surgeon chooses between them for you; the price is the same.
Slightly, because there are intestinal joins. In an accredited centre the 30-day mortality is still around 0.2%. It is also why we do not shorten the hospital stay for bypass patients: four nights, the same as a sleeve.
Technically yes, but it is rarely done and never lightly. Treat it as permanent. What it can do is be revised if needed; a sleeve can also be converted to a bypass later, which is the most common revision we do.
Yes. Band removal and conversion to a sleeve is £3,500, to a bypass £3,800, usually in one operation. Band removal on its own is £2,000. More on the surgeon's site: gastric band removal and conversion.
A sleeve that has stretched, or reflux that has become unmanageable, can be converted to a bypass. That is revision surgery, £3,500 all-inclusive, with the same four nights in hospital.
Height, weight, age, and whether you have reflux, diabetes or a previous operation. Op. Dr. Volkan Arayıcı tells you which operation he would do, and why, free and without obligation.
Those three details decide between a sleeve and a bypass more than anything else. Put them in the message box.
